In Rhode Island, 13-year-old Cassandra Lin is being recognized by the United Nations for the organization she (presumably along with her parents) founded two years ago to produce biodiesel for heating from waste cooking oil that is then in part donated to the needy. The project called TGIF (Turning Grease into Fuel) will be highlighted at the Rio+20 conference in Rio de Janeiro in June. The program has now extended beyond her hometown of Westerly into more towns, with a total of 30,000 gallons of biodiesel generated annually.
