HECO taps REG for new biodiesel contarct

November 2, 2011 |

In Hawaii, Hawaiian Electric Co. (HECO) has chosen Renewable Energy Group to supply biodiesel for its 110MW Campbell Industrial Park Generating Station.

The company currently supplies biodiesel under a contract that expires in July 2012 but with the new three-year contract it will supply 3 million to 7 million gallons. The contract will have to be approved by the Public Utility Commission who negated a previous HECO contract for biofuels saying that the price was too high for taxpayers to pay.
