Ethanol subsidy foes sponsor $64,000 per truck natural gas subsidy

In Washington, Rep. Dan Boren (R-OK), in co-sponsoring a bill this past summer to eliminate the $0.51 per gallon VEETC subsidy, which went to obligated ethanol blenders, wrote: “The bottom-line is that our constituents don’t want it in their gas, they don’t want it in their cars, and I definitely don’t want it in my truck.”

Recently, it became clear what fuel Rep. Boren did like in his truck,  natural gas, when the Oklahoma congressman co-sponsored legislation that would pay American truck owners up to $64,000, per vehicle, for converting their fueling systems over to natural gas.

The tax credit is equivalent to the VEETC subsidy paid over 125,000 gallons, or enough to power the average US vehicle for 209 years, each.

The New Alternative Transportation to Give Americans Solutions Act of 2011 or (NAT GAS Act) would provide tax credits of: $7,500 if such vehicle has a gross vehicle weight rating of not more than 8,500 pounds, $16,000 if such vehicle has a gross vehicle weight rating of more than 8,500 pounds but not more than 14,000 pounds; $40,000 if such vehicle has a gross vehicle weight rating of more than 14,000 pounds but not more than 26,000 pounds, and $64,000 if such vehicle has a gross vehicle weight rating of more than 26,000 pounds.’
