Cyclone Power developing steam engine for Army tanks

December 27, 2011 |

In Florida, Cyclone Power Technologies is developing a steam engine that runs on biofuels for the Army to use in combat vehicles including the Abrams M1 Main Battle Tank.

The $1.4 million contract with the Army’s Tank Automotive Command is developing compact, 10kw auxiliary units that will save fuel by powering the vehicle’s systems when it is stationary, rather than running the main engines on idle.
