API prez says biofuels, Keystone pipeline, domestic oil key to energy independence
Jack Gerard, president of the American Petroleum Institute, previewed the group’s “Vote 4 Energy” campaign, which will target Ohio, Pennsylvania and Virginia among other swing states with radio, TV and print advertising. Key to the industry’s proposal: a ramp-up in pressure on the Obama administration to OK the Keystone XL pipeline bringing more sales oil-based petroleum from Canada to the US. But…intriguingly, Gerard is also touting biofuels.
“If we build the Keystone XL pipeline, if we utilize our domestic oil resources and if we keep advancing biofuel development, children born in South Carolina today could be driving cars fueled entirely by North American energy when they’re old enough to get their driver’s license,” Gerard said.
