Virginia petroleum marketers say E15 ethanol could take 10 years to reach 20% of market

February 28, 2012 |

In Virginia, the Petroleum Marketers Association of America says it could take up to a decade for fuel retailers to install E15 pumps in 20% of the domestic market because they need assurances that they won’t be held responsible for damage to vehicles older than the 2001 model year, lawnmowers and other small-engine equipment.

Except in rural areas, between 140,000 and 160,000 retailers wouldn’t have room to install a third tank with most currently having regular and premium unleaded.
