Canadian canola crop set for record crush

April 16, 2012 |

In Canada, this year’s canola crush is expected to be in the record-breaking 6.8m metric-ton range. This jump in production is in response to increased demand from the US and China as the soybean crop in South America falters this growing season.

In 2011-12, the U.S. is expected to buy 2.4 million tons of Canadian canola meal, China is expected to take 500,000 tons, and Mexico about 100,000 tons, he said. Europe and Taiwan are expected to buy roughly 10,000 tons of Canadian canola meal each in 2011-12.
