In England, the National Farmers Union reports that the Red Tractor farm assurance scheme for crops and sugar beet has entered the final approval stages.
Ruth Digby, NFU crops adviser states, “The scheme was first submitted more than 18 months ago but a number of delays were encountered during the approval process. However, we are now getting positive signals that our hard work has paid off which would be welcome in time for this year’s harvest. If approved, than the Red Tractor farm assurance would allow farmers the ability to demonstrate that they meet EU sustainability requirements for their crops to be used to produce biofuels as per the Renewable Energy Directive.”
