Codexis confirms Shell R&D program still in place, after further clarification

June 14, 2012 |

In California, Codexis cleared up confusion over the termination of its research agreement with Shell and Iogen on June 30, 2012, which was announced in a two-paragraph notice at the end of a document filed June 7 with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Codexis had been collaborating with Shell and Iogen on the conversion of cellulosic biomass to ethanol but did not receive any research funding under the agreement.

Codexis’ bilateral research agreement with Shell will remain in effect through Oct. 31 as planned, and Shell will continue to fund 116 employees to further Codexis’ cellulosic enzyme research. The two companies are currently in negotiations to determine the future of that agreement.
Separately, Codexis is also collaborating with Razien, a joint venture between Shell and Cosan S.A. Indústria e Comércio, on enzymes for first-generation sugarcane ethanol.
