Celanese, Pertamina ink ethanol development pact for Indonesia

In Texas, Celenese announced a new deal to advance the development of fuel ethanol projects with Pertamina, the state-owned energy company of Indonesia. In line with its long-term strategy to develop new and renewable energy capabilities, Pertamina will collaborate exclusively with Celanese to jointly develop synthetic fuel ethanol projects in the Republic of Indonesia utilizing Celanese’s proprietary TCX  ethanol process technology. According to Celanese, its technology can produce ethanol from coal in the $1.50-$2.00 price range. The company is pursuing efforts to include its coal to liquids technology in a revised Renewable Fuel Standard.
