Nova Institute reports 800,000 tons per year PLA by 2020

In Germany, the Nova Institute is reporting that based on a survey of the international bioplastics market, global annual production capacity for polylactic acid is over 180,000 tons, and that planned expansion could reach in the neighborhood of 800,000 tons by 2020.  In surveying lactic acid producers, Nova reports that production could increase to approximately 950,000 tons per year.  Nova stated that their Market Study on Bio-based Polymers and Plastics in the World will be published in January of 2013, and will include a bioplastics producer database and 300 page report.
