UK Green MEP latest to oppose biofuel plant in Sussex

September 24, 2012 |

In the UK, Keith Taylor, a Green MEP from Sussex, is opposed to proposals for a biofuel power station in Shoreham. Edgeley Green Power (EGP) submitted a planning application to Adur District Council to convert vegetable and plant oils into electricity at the town’s port. The plant has attracted hundreds of letters of objection, and over 400 residents have signed a petition calling for the project to be stopped. Taylor is urging the planning committee to reject the proposal due to fears over air pollution. EGP defends its plant by clarifying that it will have to operate in accordance with a UK Environment Agency license which includes set limits for air emissions and noise.
