Oilseed farmers in New Zealand find a new buyer and relief

October 8, 2012 |

In New Zealand, state-owned Solid Energy has found a potential buyer for its biodiesel subsidiary, providing the 30 farmers growing oilseed rape for the company with an alternative. The new potential buyer is a South Island consortium that would purchase and process oilseed rape for edible oil and livestock feed. The sale comes after Solid Energy announced last August that it would no longer produce biodiesel due to the division’s lack of profit. If negotiations are successful, the consortium will take over operations in November.
