New York City departments seeking to improve yellow grease disposal

October 22, 2012 |

In New York, the city’s Environmental Department (DEP) is partnering with other city departments to improve yellow grease disposal regulation and reduce sewer back-up. In order to reduce the instances of improper disposal linked both to poor drainage interceptors and unlicensed transportation of the grease for conversion to biodiesel, the city plans to increase inspections and promote public awareness through an educational video. The DEP is partnering with the NYC Business Integrity Commission and the Mayor’s office for the project.
