FAO reports sustainability schemes may hurt small-scale farmers

In Rome, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) released a report entitled, Biofuels and the Sustainability Challenge, which warns that current sustainability certification schemes have the potential to exclude small-scale farmers who cannot compete with the large-scale agro-industry. The required data collection and costs for certification are often prohibitive for smallholders.
