Algenol says it may reconsider Florida expansion if governor signs RFS2 repeal

May 2, 2013 |

In Florida, the Naples News is reporting that Algenol may choose to locate its first $400M commercial facility outside of its home state of Florida, if Governor Rick Scott signs a bill repealing the state’s Renewable Fuel Standard. “We have looked at Polk County, Hendry County, Martin County,” Woods told the News. “We have looked at a lot of interior counties, and again this is somewhere between 2,000 and 3,000 jobs.” The proposed facility would produce between 15 and 20 million gallons of ethanol per year. The Renewable Fuels Association and Growth Energy have attacked the bill — saying that because of the federal ethanol mandate, the bill is an empty gesture designed to make advanced biofuels companies feel unwelcome in Florida.
