Carbontec to power ND coal production with sugarbeet waste

May 6, 2013 |

In North Dakota, Carbontec Energy will use sugarbeet waste and other biomass to power a coal nugget production facility in Jamestown. The use of biomass makes the iron production nearly carbon neutral, the company says. The first phase of the project will cost $60 million and have $50 million in annual revenue, with the 100,000 metric ton facility seen breaking ground in Q1 2014. Eventually the plant will produce 300,000 tons per year and require investment of $150 million.
