Iowa’s non-ethanol gas prices set to jump

July 29, 2013 |

In Iowa, gas prices are set to rise for those who want to buy 87 octane gas without ethanol thanks to a shift in supplies from Magellan Midstream Partners. As of Sept. 15, the company will no longer ship ethanol-free 87 octane but instead will ship 84 octane that can be blended with ethanol or blended with 91 octane premium, which is much more expensive, in order to get the 87 octane blend. Increased demand for premium as a result will likely push up the prices even further.
