Quad County breaks ground on $8.5 million cellulosic upgrade

In Iowa, Quad County Corn Processors has broken ground at its Galva ethanol production facility on an $8.5 million upgrade that will allow it to produce cellulosic ethanol from corn kernel fiber. The upgrade will mean an additional 6% ethanol production from the same amount of corn currently processed to produce 35 million gallons of first generation ethanol. The new process also boosts corn oil production by about 300%.
