Indian sugar mills surviving on renewable energy sales

In India, renewable energy is becoming the bread and butter of sugar mills thanks to the fact that they’re making a profit on ethanol and selling co-generation electricity to the grid, in comparison to sugar production that has become lossmaking. Sugar major Bajaj Hindusthan, for example, has seen co-gen revenues rise 171% and 93% from ethanol just in the past year.
