Thailand favors palm oil biodiesel plans over advanced biofuel targets

August 13, 2013 |

In Thailand, the Energy Policy & Planning Office is planning to boost biodiesel production to 7.3 million liters per day by 2021, up from its previous plan of 5.9 million liters and the current production of 2.8 million liters. That fuel is expected to come from palm oil. A target for advanced biofuels has been set at 3 million liters per day by 2021, down from a previous target of 21 million liters per day, primarily due to the high costs of next generation biofuels compared to palm oil. A B7 blend is expected to come online next year with B10 by 2019.
