Ethanol discount to gasoline widens as summer driving season ends

In New York, the US ethanol market is sufficiently supplied following the end of the summer driving season that the ethanol-to-gasoline discount has grown to 92.16 cents per gallon. But even so, backwardation between the October and November contracts is sufficient that users won’t buy ethanol until they have to. Ethanol prices are expected to drop significantly once the corn harvest comes online and availability increases.
