October 3, 2013 |

In Spain, 25,000 students in Cataluña are collecting used cooking oil as part of a recycling program promoted by the Association of Oil for Biodiesel. What started as a pilot test in the town of Santpedor. Thanks to funding from the European Commission under the LIFE+ program, the project is being extended to nine school districts with 50,000 primary and secondary school students from 120 schools eventually participating. Annually 29,000 metric tons of oil is thrown out in Cataluña but the project aims to instead recycle the oil for biodiesel.
