In Washington, the Farm Bill is unlikely to come to the floor by the conference leaders’ deadline at the end of November according to commends from Rep. Jim McGovern (D-MA). The Congressman stated that “I don’t know if we will get it before thanksgiving but I think we will get one.” The nutrition title remains the biggest point of contention. USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack also indicated that the farm bill remains among his top priorities: “It’s a jobs bill; it’s the opportunity for us to invest in business development in rural America to take advantage of our natural resources. … It’s an energy bill … it’s a trade bill, it’s a reform bill … and it will help to reduce the deficit.”
