Farm Bill unlikely this month, despite deadline

In Washington, the Farm Bill is unlikely to come to the floor by the conference leaders’ deadline at the end of November according to commends from Rep. Jim McGovern (D-MA). The Congressman stated that “I don’t know if we will get it before thanksgiving but I think we will get one.” The nutrition title remains the biggest point of contention. USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack also indicated that the farm bill remains among his top priorities: “It’s a jobs bill; it’s the opportunity for us to invest in business development in rural America to take advantage of our natural resources. … It’s an energy bill … it’s a trade bill, it’s a reform bill … and it will help to reduce the deficit.”
