Defra cites competition for lower expectations of UK wheat ethanol production

In the UK, despite both Ensus and Vivergo coming online, Defra has lowered its estimate for wheat use for industrial and food use by 307,000 metric tons for 2013/14. Lower demand for wheat is part of the wind down but much of it is a result of the uncertainty behind ethanol demand in Europe as well as competition from ethanol imports.
