Pakistani researchers develop low-temperature pre-treatment for straw

In Pakistan, researchers at the country’s University of Agriculture have developed a low-temperature enzyme pre-treatment for using wheat straw as feedstock for cellulosic ethanol. Using the natural enzymes obtained directly from fungus, the researchers achieved a yield of 33.5 g/liter of ethanol, which they say could be increased significantly using an advanced molecular approach.
