Maharashtra mills looking to boost ethanol production in face of cheap sugar

In India, Maharashtra sugarcane mills are looking to produce more ethanol to compensate for the falling prices of sugar. The state has the capacity to produce 1.6 billion liters but currently is only producing 600 million liters. Sugar production costs are currently 20% higher than the market price, pushing mills into the red just to produce sugar.
