With more than 65 years of experience in automotive and fuels research and development, SwRI is uniquely positioned as an international expert in the research, development and testing of renewable fuels.

Tell us about your role and what you are focused on in the next 12 months.

As Emission Chemist, my main focus is in the investigation and characterization of emissions from alternative fuels. Emission speciation is big part of the registration of the alternative fuels and fuel additives.

What do you feel are the most important milestones the industry must achieve in the next 5 years?

Successful commercialization of at least five projects

If you could snap your fingers and change one thing about the Advanced Bioeconomy, what would you change?

Political instability

Where are you from? 

Sevastopol, Crimea ( Russia-Ukraine-Russia)

What was your undergraduate major in college, and where did you attend? Why did you choose that school and that pathway? 

Chemistry, National Tavricheskii University, Ukraine. I loved chemistry and I had to stay close to home ( Crimea)

Who do you consider your mentors. What have you learned from them?

Jack London: always wanted to learn how to sleep 4 hours and still be able to function 🙂

What’s the biggest lesson you ever learned during a period of adversity?

The sun will be risen tomorrow. If you want to see it, it is your obligation to move on and move forward.

What hobbies do you pursue, away from your work in the industry? 

Dancing, dancing, and dancing ( anything and anywhere)

What 3 books would you take to read, if stranded on a desert island?

“The Sea-Wolf” by Jack London , “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” by Mark Twain, and “The War and Peace” by Lev Tolstoy

What books or articles are on your reading list right now, or you just completed and really enjoyed?

What’s your favorite city or place to visit, for a holiday?

My hometown Sevastopol ( Crimea)
