Only one major Republican seen getting in the way of the RFS in 2015

November 17, 2014 |

In Washington, the new wave of Republican legislators heading to the national capital in 2015 aren’t likely to have a major impact on the Renewable Fuel Standard, though one in particular may try. The three main ethanol groups agree that the fuel is bipartisan, having more to do with regions than parties, as congressmen from both sides of the aisle step up to support or seek to defeat the law. The main opponent with a big voice is likely to be the new chairman of the Senate’s Environment and Public Works Committee, Senator James Inhofe from Oklahoma who is a major ethanol opponent. The industry expects him to hold anti-RFS hearings, but it may be there are enough bipartisan legislators to ensure that the RFS stays in place.
