In the Philippines, the Central Azucarera de la Carlota is exploring the possibility of producing bioplastics from sugarcane. To that end, the company has signed a research MOU with the University of the Philippines in Los Baños and is also in talks for a similar agreement with the University of Saint La Salle in Bacolod City. The company is seriously looking at ways to diversify its business so as to not be solely dependent on sugar production.
