Iowa associations lobby Washington for Senate passage of biodiesel blenders credit

In Washington, the Iowa Biodiesel Board and Iowa Soybean Association organized a fly-in-to-lobby day in Washington, D.C. to reinstate the $1-per-gallon biodiesel blenders tax credit. The measure, which expired nearly a year ago, was reinstated in a retroactive package of tax incentives which the House recently passed. The bill will soon head to the Senate, where its passage would put off any discussions of the credit’s future in 2015 until next year. The Iowa delegation has also sent numerous lawmakers letters on the credit.

Kimberley, Karey Claghorn, ISA chief operating officer and T.J. Page of the Iowa Renewable Fuels Association led the Iowa delegation. Others include Bill Horan, Jeff Johannesmeyer and Denny Mauser of Western Iowa Energy and Tom Brooks of Western Dubuque Biodiesel. “We had good meetings. Everyone is supportive,” said Grant Kimberley, IBB executive director. “While we were hoping for a multi-year extension, something is better than nothing. But there’s still uncertainty going forward.
