New York state awards bioenergy projects with economic development grants

In New York state, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced that $709.2 million in economic and community development funding has been awarded through Round IV of the Regional Economic Development Council (REDC) initiative. Bioenergy projects that received funding include: Seneca Bioenergy LLC: Seneca Bioenergy was awarded a $250,000 ESD grant to support the expansion of biodiesel production and to attract two new businesses to the Seneca AgBio Green Energy Park.

Genesee Biogas LLC: Genesee Biogas was awarded $1.5 million in ESD grants to support the development of a biogas plant at the Genesee Valley Agri-Business Part in Batavia. The plant will convert organic waste streams produced by agricultural and food processors into renewable energy.

Cornell Cooperative Extension Dutchess County: Cornell Cooperative Extension Dutchess County was awarded $23,000 in NYSERDA CGC2 funding to support the development of an energy plan for Dutchess County. The project will focus on methods to divert organic compounds in the solid waste stream in order to reduce the volume of waste generated in the county. The waste will also be reused through composting to generate biogas through anaerobic digestion.

FermCo Inc.: FermCo was awarded a $2 million ESD grant to establish a 1.5 million liter fermentation facility in Eastman Business Park for the production of biobased fuels and chemicals.

Anellotech Inc.: Anellotech was awarded $750,000 in grants to support the lease of laboratory and office space. Specialized reactors and analytical equipment will be installed to study the catalytic fast pyrolysis of biomass to produce basic petroleum products.
