Indian sugar mills worried about policy linking export subsidy to ethanol supply

In India, with raw sugar export subsidies potentially tied to supplying ethanol to Oil Marketing Companies, sugar companies are beginning to worry that they won’t be able to supply a quarter of their production capacity as may be required. But the sugar mills association says that in the case of Maharashtra, at least, the situation could only be tricky for 7 or 8 mills as only 35 in total produce ethanol and many of those don’t produce raw sugar.
