Biofuels must be sustainability certified to receive South African Climate Bond funds

March 19, 2015 |

In South Africa, the Bioenergy Technical Working Group has proposed a set of criteria that would include bioenergy and biofuel projects under the Climate Bonds Standard including environmental criteria such as a minimum of 60% GHG emissions reductions. Projects must be certified under at least one of the following: Roundtable for Sustainable Biomaterials (RSB), Round Table Responsible Soy (RTRS), Roundtable for Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), Bonsucro and FSC (Forest Stewardship Council). The Climate Bonds Initiative is expected to reach $100 billion in 2015.
