Marquis Energy investing $180 million in ethanol plant expansion

In Illinois, Marquis Energy is investing $180 million to expand its ethanol plant, with extra capacity coming online in about nine months. The expansion project has been delayed but still went forward anyway following a civil suit over property tax abatements. Illinois Valley Community College felt it was getting the short end of the proverbial property tax stick and sued the company along with the county and officials, but after spending nearly $700,000 in legal fees, the school has dropped the suit.
