Jennifer Holmgren to receive BIO’s 2015 Rosalind Franklin Award

In Canada, Dr. Jennifer Holmgren has been selected as the recipient of the 2015 BIO Rosalind Franklin Award for Leadership in Industrial Biotechnology at the BIO World Congress on Industrial Biotechnology. According to BIO, Dr. Holmgren’s work and commitment to the advancement of her field of industrial biotechnology embodies the spirit of Rosalind Franklin and her pioneering efforts.

Dr. Holmgren is CEO of a revolutionary carbon recycling company, LanzaTech. Under her leadership, LanzaTech is developing the world’s first alternative jet fuel from industrial waste gases using intermediates derived through industrial biotechnology. LanzaTech’s technology, certified by the Roundtable on Sustainable Biomaterials (RSB) in 2013, is ready to deploy globally today, with a 30 million gallon nameplate facility targeted for construction in China in 2015, producing fuel ethanol from steel mill off gases.

This award was created to help carry on the legacy of Rosalind Franklin who not only aided in the expansion of biotechnology, but also helped pave the way for women in this field.
