New Zealand beer company to produce E10 Brewtroleum from yeast slurry

June 15, 2015 |

In New Zealand, local beer brewer DB Export is preparing to produce ethanol by distilling a yeast slurry byproduct from beer production. The first run of the experiment will be done in July with 58,000 liters of slurry used to produce 30,000 liters of ethanol.

Testing already began in February and scale up is later expected where plans are to blend 10% ethanol at the pump to make Brewtroleum, the first commercially produced ethanol from beer in New Zealand.
