St1, the new Chair of LSB: “EU must create a strong 2030 policy”

June 27, 2015 |

In Brussels, the Leaders of Sustainable Biofuels elected St1 Biofuels Oy’s CEO Mika Aho to chair the coalition for the coming year. The new chairman was elected in LSB’s general meeting in Brussels on 17 June, 2015. LSB is a coalition of key companies in the advanced biofuels sector with the aim to promote the development of second generation advanced biofuels in Europe.

The LSB coalition consists of eight European companies: St1, UPM, Biochemtex, British Airways, BTG, Chemrec, Clariant and Dong Energy. The companies representing seven countries are engaging within LSB to discuss biofuels regulation with European institutions and member states.

Mika Aho, St1, states: “Now that ILUC file is concluded, LSB urges Member States to introduce binding sub-targets for advanced biofuels, as outlined in the ILUC Directive. Now, it is also time for the European institutions to create a credible and ambitious Energy and Climate package for 2030 enabling investments in advanced biofuels production in Europe. Advanced biofuels offer the fastest and the most cost efficient way to decarbonize the transport sector in short and medium term, reflecting the slow renewal pace of the car fleet. The LSB companies are technology leaders in advanced biofuels paving the way for the EU to show leadership in heading towards global climate negotiations at the United Nations Conference on Climate Change in Paris 2015.”
