India’s B5 mandate seen mopping up some of Malaysia’s palm oil surplus

August 11, 2015 |

In India, introduction of B5 blending could help to ease the palm oil glut Malaysia is currently suffering from that has seriously weighed on prices. As India has very little vegetable oil production, most of the feedstock required to supply the mandate will have to be imported. So far the new policy hasn’t triggered imports, leaving market analysts unsure how much of the palm oil surplus in the southeast Asian region will be mopped up from the increase in Indian demand. Domestic oil production will likely focus on the use of used cooking oil.
