In North Dakota, Agrisoma Biosciences is seeing its first carinata harvest with farmers having 6,000 acres of the crop under contract. So far, about a quarter of the crop has been harvested with an average yield of 30 bushels per acre, a level the company’s agronomist says indicates some great yields mixed with some OK yields.
The crop sells for about the same price as canola but the seeds are cheaper, providing lower cost of production at the same income levels farmers are accustomed to getting for including canola in their rotations. The company hopes to see farmers plant again next year and get production up to 50,000 acres.
