ActionAid USA pointing the finger at the RFS for boosting Brazilian sugarcane expansion

September 7, 2015 |

In Washington, ActionAid USA is linking the use of biofuels in the US with growing demand for ethanol—and therefore sugarcane—in Brazil that it says is encroaching on organic farmers in Brazil in an attempt to bring back the food vs fuel debate. The article completely ignores the fact that Brazil has been building its own ethanol economy for more than 40 years. It looks more at the impacts on organic farming of nearby industrial agriculture but rather chooses to blame the RFS for the negative impacts rather than looking at how organic and conventional agriculture can co-exist.
