Ethanol plant in Pernambuco comes back online thanks to policy shift

In Brazil, the Pedroza ethanol plant in Pernambuco has come back online after being mothballed for a year, the first time the sugarcane milling facility hasn’t operated since opening in 1891. The mill will crush 400,000 metric tons of sugarcane in the next harvest, producing about 7 million liters of ethanol. Grupo Farias has leased the mill and is operating it under the Copersul cooperative. Policy changes in the state made it against economically feasible to operate the plant.
