In the UK, Green Plains may have gotten a good deal when it bought the ethanol plant in Hopewell, Virginia run by Vireol and owned by Elysian Fuels, but the UK-based Elysian is under investigation because the funding underlying the plant came from UK savers and pensioners whose investments are now considering as worthless. The project is seen as high risk, far too high for the profile of investors who participated in the scheme, where as much as GBP200 million may have been lost.
