Xcel Energy grants Natural Resources Research Institute $1.9 million for bioenergy

In Minnesota, Xcel Energy’s Renewable Development Fund has granted the University of Minnesota’s Natural Resources Research Institute $1.9 million to develop locally produced biofuels that will later be injected into the national grid. The center has an extensive focus on renewable energy research including work with feedstocks, improving DDGS technologies, biomass processing and conversion technologies and energy crop development. The work is tied in with departments that focus on forest biomass materials and bioproducts as well as getting additional value out of wood resources.
