Ethanol still the favored half of Brazilian sugarcane crush

November 11, 2015 |

In Brazil, as the crush heads into its final stages for the year, mills are again focusing on ethanol production over sugar with nearly 58% of the crop going towards producing the fuel. The ethanol focus is in turn helping to support sugar prices, which are finally starting to recover for the first time in six years. Ethanol demand continues to soar despite higher prices thanks to higher gasoline prices following a shift by Petrobras, leaving mills in the best position they’ve been in in years thanks to higher ethanol and sugar prices at the same time.
