Pentland Bio-Energy may finally begin construction in mid-2016

In Australia, construction of the Pentland Bio-Energy plant in North Queensland could finally get underway in June and commissioning as soon as 25 months later. The facility is expected to produce 250 million liters of ethanol from sugarcane and sorghum during its first year, scaling up to 344 million liters later. As many as 20 investors have already signed up with an unnamed major US company having signed an offtake agreement for the entire production during the first 15 years of operation. Further stages could see the project produce as much as 1 billion liters of ethanol annually. Proponents claim that the production cost will be the lowest in the world.
