Demand for D4 RINs on the rise due to slow Brazilian ethanol imports

November 19, 2015 |

In Texas, D4 biodiesel RIN prices are on the rise due to slower Brazilian ethanol imports that generate D5 RINs, up 8 cents this week to 69.5 cents/RIN as of Wednesday’s closing. D4s can fulfill D5 quotas. This year’s D5 RIN generation is far behind the 255 million required under the 2015 RFS proposal at just 79.7 million RINs through September. Just 50% of the D5 RINs generated this year came from Brazilian imports, compared to nearly 92% as was the case in 2012.
