RFS for 2016 sees RIN markets soar like crazy

December 8, 2015 |

In Washington, as a result of the EPA’s blending mandates for 2014 to 2016 last week, the RIN markets responded wildly with D4 biodiesel RIN prices increasing as much as 30% while D6 conventional ethanol RINs soared a whopping 90% for 2016. It means the market wasn’t expecting EPA to stay close to the previously announced draft targets and had not priced in the required demand. University of Illinois economists Scott Irwin and Darrel Good even went so far as to predict the EPA sets the conventional ethanol blending mandate at 15 billion gallons for 2017 based on its apparent support for the RFS.
