India’s switch to B5 in railroads gets off to a good start in Bengaluru

December 14, 2015 |

In India, the Chennai-Mysuru Shatabdi Express will begin running on a 5% biodiesel blend this week, following the introduction of blended fuel to Hubballi-Bengaluru Janshatabdi Express last week. As a result of the switch, the Bengaluru Railway Division will consume about 5,000 liters of biodiesel produced from jatropha and pongamia every day, saving the unit about $223 daily. Kolkata-based Emami Agrotech will supply the fuel that will fill the more than 200 trains that begin their journeys from City Railway Station in Bengaluru on a daily basis.
