Hydrous ethanol price parity in Brazil lowest in six weeks but still over 70%

January 6, 2016 |

In Brazil, the hydrous ethanol price parity against gasoline was the lowest in six weeks following record prices brought upon by record demand after the government raised gasoline and diesel prices in late September. Last week’s hydrous ethanol price was still above the 70% threshold against gasoline, however, at more than 72%. Even though the parity is falling, hydrous prices were the highest last week since Platts began tracking in October 2008. With the end of the crush in sight and few new supplies until April other than potential imports from the US, prices are likely to remain high despite the parity being over 70%.
